Tinubu Warns Jega: Conduct Free, Fair Elections, Or Loose Your Job

Former Lagos State governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Thursday berated the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Atahiru Jega, on his recent comment that Nigerians should not expect perfect election in 2015.

He urged the INEC boss to resign if he cannot guarantee a perfect election.

Speaking with newsmen after the All Progressive Congress (APC) membership registration sensitisation meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Lagos, Tinubu, said with such comment, “Jega is already admitting failure and laying foundation for failure.

“If he can’t do the job, let him quit. What do we pay him for? A perfect election makes a perfect society. We must strive to give the people what they want.“It has to be a perfect election in 2015, it has to be 99.9 per cent perfect. If he wants to lecture again about perfect and imperfection of electoral process, let him go back to the university”, Tinubu said.

The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have written to the presidents of Nigeria and Uganda, after being asked about laws penalising gay people.

The letter said homosexual people were loved and valued by God and should not be victimised or diminished. Addressed to all primates (heads of national Churches) in the worldwide Anglican Communion, Archbishops Justin Welby of Canterbury and John Sentamu of York said the letter was a result of “questions asked about the Church of England’s attitude to new legislation in several countries that penalises people with same-sex attraction”.

The letter comes as Archbishop Welby starts a five-day tour of four African countries.

Oslo-based Norwegian designers,Theo Tveterås and Lars Vedeler have created a Durr watch that doesn't tell the time but gives the wearer timely notifications by vibrating every five minutes. The design features a colourful fabric circle with a simple brown leather strap and a small button to turn vibration on and off.

The designers said they created the watch as an experiment to draw attention to the difference between time as it passes and how we perceive it passing.

The first batch of 50 £75 watches is said to have sold out in just over six weeks.

The Norwegian duo, who work together under the name Skrekkøgle, said that after wearing the watch for six months, it added a certain ‘rhythm’ to each day. But others have criticised it for being nothing more than an expensive ‘egg timer on a strap’.

Mr Tveterås said the feedback from other people was- it acts like a countdown to their death ‘which wasn’t the intention at all’.

The original units were constructed on a small scale, pieced together and dyed by hand, but the designers are now planning a much larger production run.

Heart stopping footage of Thailand tourist hurling selves overboard as boat sinks under great waves

A dramatic footage has emerged showing a ship - named ‘Aladdin’ – sinking under great waves as people on board can be heard screaming and shouting for help when they realised that they were in grave danger.

Some of the passengers who jumped off the boat were sucked under the waves as they tried to escape. Others were able to dive to safety. Miraculously none of the 13 people on board died after people on another boat swam over to save them.

Swedish diver Dennis Karlsson, 46, who was on board the Peter Pan, took the footage of the boat sinking and the dramatic rescue.(see pictures after the jump). ‘It was just a coincidence that our boat was there and could come to the rescue,’ he told Sweden's Aftonbladet newspaper.

It is believed that Aladdin, which sank between Bon Island and Tachai Island in Thailand's south, was on a four-day live-aboard adventure trip at the time it sank. The incident comes just three months after six tourists died when an overcrowded ferry carrying 200 people capsized and sank off the Thai coast.

A Baby factory operated by one Mr and Mrs Abiodun Ogundeji has been uncovered in Ilu-Titun in Okitipupa council area of Ondo State by the state command of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS.

At least 24 suspects were arrested in connection with the illegal establishment. Among those nabbed by the anti-trafficking detectives of the command include five pregnant women, five nursing mothers, five babies, two of which are less than a month old and eight men whose duty it was to impregnate the women.

The arrest of the proprietor of the baby factory, Mrs Happiness Ogundeji, was after several months of intelligence gathering and discreet surveillance by officials of the command. According to reports, the proprietor, Mrs Ogundeji had to relocate to Ondo State after she was arrested in Imo State for a similar offence.

Upon her arrest,she was said to have pretended that the baby factory was a natural healing home.

American recording artiste India Arie wasn’t pleased with how the 2014 Grammy Awards went down on Sunday night at the Staples Center, Los Angeles, California. She took to her Tumblr page to speak out on how black artistes are not being honoured and recognized with the gold statues.

India also made mention of how the show is all about popularity and not the music and ended by asking why Nelson Mandela wasn’t recognized.

Ghanaian ex-wife wipes out her ex-husband’s new family

A 33-year-old Ghanaian woman, on Monday 27th of January, 2014 completely wiped out her ex-husband’s new family. Efua Badu and her ex got separated when the two had(undisclosed) marital problems, it was learnt. Their families tried to settle the matter, but her ex-husband insisted it was over. He later got married to a 25-year old lady who bore him a child - now two and a half year-old.

Efua couldn't stand losing her man, the father of her two kids and as such, in the early hours of Monday, around 1.30am, she set the uncompleted building her ex was living ablaze, killing him, his new wife and their baby while they were all asleep. She later fled from the scene, but when fire fighters got there, they couldn't trace where the fire began and said someone might have set the family ablaze.

After investigation, Efua was traced to her home by the police, where they saw some burns in her right arm and face. She denied ever knowing anything about the fire, but later confessed she was behind it when she was been interrogated. She admitted she did it out of jealous and pleaded to be forgiven.

The charred bodies of the three have been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for examination. Sadly, the 25-year old new wife and her daughter only got to the man’s house for the first time on the 26th of January, 2014, when he, the deceased went to bring them to start living with him. They died a few hours later.

Kanye settles out of court, pays his Beverly Hills victim over $250K

I read this and felt like getting a good beating from Kanye West...250Kdolls aint small money you know!. TMZ reports that Mr West has settled out of court giving the man he beat up in the waiting room of a Beverly Hills chiropractor more than $250,000.

Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan seeks death penalty for cyber crime

Nigerian head of state, President Goodluck Jonathan has proposed a bill seeking the death penalty for any person(s)found guilty of hacking into Criminal National Information Infrastructure or any computer network that would lead to loss of lives

The bill which is called the Cyber Crime bill 2013 is currently before the House of Reps and seeks to address all forms of criminality within the cyberspace proposes a life sentence for anyone who uses any computer network to carry out acts of terrorism. In a case where there is no loss of life but the offender causes grave bodily harm, the bill recommends a prison term of not less than 15months while a 10 year jail term or a fine of N20million or both is been proposed for anyone who engages in child pornography..

The bill defines Critical National Information Infrastructure as 'certain computer systems, networks information infrastructure vital to the national security of Nigeria or the economy & social well-being of its citizen'.

Disney Channel Introduces Its First Ever Same-Sex Couple On The Kids' Channel!

Last weekend, Kids' oriented TV network, Disney Channel, introduced its first-ever openly gay couple on the family series-Good Luck Charlie, in an episode that made the lifestyle look perfectly normal.

In the groundbreaking episode, parents Amy and Bob Duncan, played by Leigh-Allyn Baker and Eric Allan Kramer, set up a playdate for their preschooler Charlie (Mia Talerico) and one of her new friends, who, it turns out, has two mothers.

Already, the introduction has met strong opposition from conservative watch groups, who are accusing Disney that it plans to corrupt children with LGBT content.But Disney maintains the episode was developed to be “relevant' to kids and families around the world. That the characters were meant to reflect today’s world, as many viewers are young children with same-sex parents.

Would you let your kids, lil siblings watch? That seems to be the question on critics’ lips....

Meanwhile, former Disney child star, Miley Cyrus is so excited with the introduction. In her statement she said: 'I commend Disney for making this step into the light of this generation.

Kenyan-based BBC broadcast journalist, Anne Waithera, has been announced dead.Aged 39, she died in a Nairobi hospital. She had been battling cancer for the past two years it was alleged.

Described as among the most talented Kenyan journalists of her time, she joined the BBC in 2009 after many years with local TV and radio stations.

She was the first BBC bilingual - English and Swahili - reporter to be appointed to the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa. Her death comes less than a fortnight after that of BBC journalist, Komla Dumor from Ghana, in London.

A minute's silence was observed by BBC Africa staff in Nairobi, London, Dakar and Abuja.

BBC Africa editor Solomon Mugera described her as "a brave, well-organised and talented journalist".

BBC international bureaux manager Razvan Scortea added, "I am very saddened by this. Anne was a lovely person, bright, gentle and positive, and she fought so hard. God bless her."

A fisherman from New Zealand was left baffled when he caught this transparent shrimp-like creature. The creature was said to have been swimming near the surface of the ocean.

Stewart Fraser was fishing with sons Conaugh and Finn 43 miles north off the North Island's Karikari Peninsula when he spotted the translucent 'shrimp' floating near the top of the water.

Mr Fraser said: 'I was in two minds whether to haul it in, but curiosity got the better of me and I decided to take a closer look. 'It felt scaly and was quite firm, almost jelly like, and you couldn't see anything inside aside from this orange little blob inside it.

The photo baffled Mr Fraser and all of his fisherman friends, who are still none more the wise as to what the creature could have been.

Shocking photographs have emerged of a cannibal by the name of Mad Dog consuming the flesh of a lynched Muslim man for the second time in as many weeks as the clash between Christians and Muslims has been going on reports Daily Mail UK.

In one of the pictures,(See Pictures after the story-WARNING:Extremely Graphic) 'Mad Dog' - real name Ouandja Magloire - cuts a portion of meat from the body of a murdered Muslim lying and burning on a roundabout in a street in Bangui,Central African Republic, with the body of another a few yards away.

In another he is shown licking human blood off of a knife as he stands over the body.

Earlier in the month also, horrific footage emerged from Bangui of Magloire eating the leg of a Muslim who, according to the BBC, was hauled from a bus, battered and then stabbed before being set on fire. Magloire told a BBC reporter at the time that his action was revenge for the murders of his pregnant wife, his sister-in-law and her baby. He claimed that Muslims were responsible and he was angry with them.

US First Lady Michelle Obama turned 50 on Friday Jan. 17th and celebrated with family and friends,mostly celebrities on Saturday January 18th at the White House's East Room.

In what many have termed as not too surprising, Beyoncé performed at the First Lady's gig.Queen Bey went on to share photos on her tumblr, posing in a pale sequined dress inside the White House and even with the family dog- 'The first dog' (both pictured above).

Other guests and performers were said to include John legend, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Samuel L. Jackson, Magic Johnson, Gayle King, Gladys Knight, Smokey Robinson, and Stevie Wonder.

Hudson also posted photos on her IG after the party, writing: We had such a good time with the 1st family in dc tonight ! Now on to the next stop !

Guests were asked to not take photos during the party, but according to reports, FLOTUS wore a gorgeous red and black ensemble, and POTUS gave a moving speech about his wife before breaking into the Dougie. Oh my!

On January 7th, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan signed the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Bill 2013 into law. The law bans same sex marriage, and through its wording, also seeks to criminalise people, organisations and agencies who support homosexuality and those who do not immediately report any known homosexuals, or homosexual activities.

The Oba of Benin has lost his first wife, Queen Esther Erediauwa nee Osunbor. She died on Saturday 18th Jan,2014 in Benin City after a brief illness which started in December, 2013. May her soul rest in peace. Adieu mama!

Picture of nun who gave birth and claimed she didn't know she was pregnant

Meet the Salvadorean nun (circled above) who said she had no idea she was pregnant when she gave birth to a baby boy last week.

33 year old Roxana Rodriguez, a nun with the order of the Little Disciples of Jesus, initially claimed she thought her labour pains were 'stomach cramps' when an ambulance rushed her to the hospital.

Her picture was published this weekend in the Italian daily newspaper, Corriere Della Sera. The new mum reportedly told her social worker:

'I am so happy. I feel more of a mother than a nun, I think that's obvious. I decided to call him Francis in honour of our wonderful south American Pope. I do not feel of guilt. I will be keeping him and bringing him up. He is a gift from God. I am little worried about all the publicity, not only in Italy but in El Salvador and all over the world. Everyone is talking about this and I don't think I will be able to return to my home country"

Ugandan gay lover was burnt to death publicly as kids watch. This terrible punishment is meted out on gays in Uganda as they are being caught and exposed but having little kids watch a man being gruesomely killed is just sickening to me.

The Man Gen.Sani Abacha (A Long Read)

A Kanuri from Borno by tribe, Late Gen.Sani Abacha was born and brought up in Kano, Nigeria. He attended the Nigerian Military Training College and Mons Officer Cadet School before being commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in 1963.

The Army General who was born on the 20^th of September 1943 and died on the 8^th of June 1998 was a Nigerian soldier and politician who served as the de facto President of Nigeria from 1993 to 1998.

Abacha's regime is one of the most controversial in Nigeria's history. His regime became the first to record unprecedented economic achievements: he oversaw an increase in the country's foreign exchange reserves from $494 million dollars in 1993 to $9.6 billion by the middle of 1997, reduced the external debt of Nigeria from $36 billion in 1993 to $27 billion by 1997, brought all the controversial privatization programs of the Babangida administration to halt, reduced an inflation rate of 54% inherited from Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida to 8.5% between 1993 and 1998, all while the nation's primary commodity, oil was at an average of $9 per barrel. His administration is also credited with creating the most comprehensive and realistic blueprint for Nigeria's development through the Vision 2010 committee chaired by his predecessor Ernest Shonekan.

Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola was born in Abeokuta, Ogun State. His name, Kashimawo, means "Let us wait and see". Moshood Abiola was his father's twenty-third child but the first of his father's children to survive infancy, hence the name 'Kashimawo'. It was not until he was 15 years old that he was properly named Moshood, by his parents.

MKO showed entrepreneurial talents at a very young age, at the age of nine he started his first business selling firewood. He would wake up at dawn to go to the forest and gather firewood, which he would then cart back to town and sell before going to school, in order to support his old father and his siblings. He later founded a band at age fifteen where he would perform at various ceremonies in exchange for food. He eventually became famous enough to start demanding payment for his performances and used the money to support his family and his secondary education at the Baptist Boys High School Abeokuta, where he excelled. He was the editor of the school magazine The Trumpeter, Olusegun Obasanjo was deputy editor. At the age of 19 he joined the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons ostensibly because of its stronger pan-Nigerian origin compared with the Obafemi Awolowo-led Action Group.

Moshood Abiola sprang to national and international prominence as a result of his philanthropic activities. The Congressional Black Caucus of the United States of America issued the following tribute to Moshood Abiola:

Because of this man, there is both cause for hope and certainty that the agony and protests of those who suffer injustice shall give way to peace and human dignity. The children of the world shall know the great work of this extraordinary leader and his fervent mission to right wrong, to do justice, and to serve mankind. The enemies which imperil the future of generations to come: poverty, ignorance, disease, hunger, and racism have each seen effects of the valiant work of Chief Abiola. Through him and others like him, never again will freedom rest in the domain of the few. We, the members of the Congressional Black Caucus salute him this day as a hero in the global pursuit to preserve the history and the legacy of the African diaspora.

REVEALED: Stella Oduah Forged Her MBA Certificate - SaharaReporters

Stella Oduah, Nigeria’s minister of aviation is facing a new integrity scrutiny over her claim that she obtained an MBA degree from an American university. According to a new report by Saharareporters, Stella's claim has been punctured by the United States school which supposedly awarded it.

Her resume, which she presented to the Senate as a ministerial nominee in 2011, indicated she obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from St. Paul’s College Lawrenceville, Virginia, United States.

But SaharaReporters has learned from the President of the college that it has never in its 125-year history had a graduate school or graduate program.

The Provost Vice President of Academic Affairs, and the Vice President of Institutional Development said in response to Saharareporter's inquiries:

“We don’t offer any graduate programs here.”

“Similarly, the school’s website states: “Saint Paul’s College is accredited by the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate [bachelor’s] degrees.”

There is no mention of graduate degrees. So, how come?
