"AS A FATHER I HAVE NEVER GIVEN OUT MY DAUGHTER IN MARRIAGE BEFORE UNIVERSITY GRADUATION" - ATIKU ABUBAKAR

As a father, I've never given out my daughters in marriage before university graduation. It's a personal decision. I had earlier stated my personal choices on the child marriage issue; I have always supported our women and children. For the avoidance of doubt, I do not support any constitutional provision which creates ambiguities about the age of consent for marriage. It's therefore very inspiring to see young Nigerians active and organized on ‪ChildNotBride. I'm proud to see an engaged generation at work.

SPAIN: DERAILED TRAIN IN SPAIN LEAVES 56 PEOPLE DEAD AND 70 CRUSHED UNDER SMASHED CARRIAGES

At least 56 people were killed when a train carrying 218 passengers left the track on a bend just outside the northern city of Santiago de Compostela in Spain on Monday night.

The crash happened just yards from the city's main train station. Thousands of people were making their way to the city ahead of a major Christian festival which sees the streets thronged.
An eyewitness account states that a lot of those killed and seriously hurt were crushed when the carriages began to pile on top of each other, in the crash which happened shortly before 9pm local time.

Ricardo Montesco, who was on the train at the time, told Cadena Ser radio station: 'It was going so quickly.
'It seems that on a curve the train started to twist, and the wagons piled up one on top of the other.'
'A lot of people were squashed on the bottom. We tried to squeeze out of the bottom of the wagons to get out and we realised the train was burning.
'I was in the second wagon and there was fire. I saw corpses.'

NIGERIA: "GOD PUNISH YOU,SENATOR SANI YERIMA-AN OPEN LETTER FROM NOLLYWOOD DIRECTOR,CHARLES NOVIA

An open letter by Charles Novia to Senator Yerima regarding the Underage Marriage issues currently going on in the country;

“God punish you Senator Yerima” .I just read a purported defence of Senator Ahmed Yerima about the Underage Marriage bill he coerced his fellow dimwit Senators to pass into law. His lame excuses are as stupid as they are so archaic. A theory from a puerile mind: hiding under obtuse reasons to justify his sexual appetites through a Holy Law. This Neanderthal Senator is a threat to National Security and National Unity. I hear he aspires to be the next President or Vice-President of this country, Nigeria. I can safely tell him that his aspirations will come to nought.

BRITAIN'S ROYAL BABY WILL BE KNOWN AS HRH PRINCE GEORGE ALEXANDER LOUIS OF CAMBRIDGE

The announcement of the new prince's name has been relatively quick compared with previous royal babies.

It was seven days before the name of Prince William was announced in 1982, and there was a wait of a month following Prince Charles's birth in 1948.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have however named their son George Alexander Louis, Kensington Palace said today.

The third in line to the throne, who was born on Monday at 16:24 BST, will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge. George was the bookmakers' favourite for the first name of the prince.

PAPPIS CISSE LABELLED A HYPOCRITE OVER WONGA SHIRT BOYCOTT AFTER SPENDING NIGHT IN CASINO

Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse earned plenty of praise from both inside and out of football when he refused to compromise his religious principles by wearing a shirt promoting money lenders Wonga.

The Magpies were understandably dismayed when their striker tried to undermine the shirt sponsorship deal with the pay day loans company, who charge interest rates equivalent to 5,853 per cent APR in what many see as a legalised form of loan sharking.

Cisse objected to the sponsorship on religious and ethical grounds. He has offered to wear a charity-branded shirt instead, but no agreement has yet been reached, which saw him miss the club's pre-season tour.

BEYONCE GETS HAIR CAUGHT UP IN CONCERT FAN

Nothing seems to be able to stop this divalicious singer...not even a blade from an industrial sized fan.

Beyonce's hair was caught up between the baldes of a giant fan during her concert in Montreal as She sang her favourite hit track Halo. The singer just went on singing.

Several people caught the mishap on video and the singer later joked about it on her social media accounts. She was cut free when a crew member with a pair of scissors cut her hair to set her loose from the fan's grip.

She posted a handwritten note on Instagram reworking the lyrics to Halo to include the line: "Gravity can't begin to pull me out of the fan again."

The singer's Mrs Carter Show world tour, which began in Belgrade in April, runs until December.

NIGERIA: "WE WILL NEVER SUPPORT CHILD MARRIAGE" - DEPUTY SENATE PRESIDENT,IKE EKWEREMADU SAYS VOTE WAS MISCONSTRUED

The Senate has said that it's decision has been misconstrued.

The power house has defended its decision to retain a controversial section of the constitution that seems to support child marriage, asking Nigerians to be calm and understand that the section has nothing to do with marriage, but instead citizenship.

The Senate said Nigerians had nothing to fear as it will never support child marriage, a subject at the centre of the controversy over Section 29, subsection 4(b) of the constitution. “This has nothing to do with child marriage; we will never support child marriage,” said Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, who heads the review committee, said.

That section details guidelines for a Nigerian to renounce his or her citizenship. Part of the law says the person must be at least 18 years. But if the person is a woman and married, the section continues, she shall be deemed to be “of age”.

An attempt by the Senate last week to delete the second definition having to do with a married woman, as part of its ongoing constitutional amendment, failed after a member, Ahmed Yerima, claimed it was un-Islamic.

The failure has sparked intense public anger, one of the most sweeping, against a decision by the National Assembly in years.

NIGERIA: CAN PRESIDENT, AYO ORITSEJAFOR TO MOBILISE PROTEST AGAINST SENATE RESOLUTION ON CHILD MARRIAGE

President of the Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN) Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor,  has said that he will lead Nigerians to protest against the Senate resolution to amend Section 29 (4) (b) of the 1999 Constitution under which married underage girls are deemed to be adults. The association afrowned former Governor of Zamfara State Ahmed Yerima assertion  that the proposal for the deletion of the section contravened Islamic Law.

Oritsejafor,  in a statement, described Yerima’s argument as offensive, saying, “It presupposes that Nigeria, a secular state, is populated only by Muslims.”

He said, “By the grace of God, I will, personally mobilise Nigerians and lead the street protest against this oppressive and dehumanising resolution. Why would the Senate, after voting recoil, simply because of a point of order premised on religious basis? We, Christians, also have Canon Law, which frowns on marriage of girls who are not of age. Christianity abhors such marriages. The protest will be soon. Finally, I urge the Yerimas in the Senate to toe the path of the Holy Qur’an, which states that one who kills a person unjustly in effect has killed everyone and one who saves another has saved everyone. They should save these girls and Nigerians the agony of having their children married off at ages below 18 by unfavourable legislations.”

EARLY MORNING TOAST: WHAT IS A SELFIE?

"By 2013, the word "selfie" had become commonplace enough to be monitored for inclusion in the online version of the Oxford English Dictionary".
A selfie is a genre of self-portrait photograph, typically taken with a hand-held digital camera or camera phone. Selfies are often associated with social networking and photo sharing services such as MySpace, Facebook, and Instagram, where they are commonly posted. They are often casual, are typically taken either with a camera held at arm's length or in a mirror, and typically include either only the photographer, or the photographer and up to three other people.

Selfies taken that involve multiple people are known as "group selfies".The term "selfie" was popularized by photographer Jim Krause in 2005.

Initially popular with young people, selfies have become popular among adults as well. In December 2012, Time magazine noted that selfie was among its the "top 10 buzzwords" of 2012; although selfies had existed for years, it was in 2012 that the term "really hit the big time".

THAT MOMENT WHEN YOU DONT KNOW WHAT TO THINK-YOU JUST STARE

This really scary moment was caught on camera when a 5 year-old Chinese girl got her head stuck between window bars on the OUTSIDE of an apartment block on the 24th floor.

A neighbour in Daye, in China's Hubei province, alerted emergency services after hearing the little girl's cries. She was left at home alone and climbed out to 'look around'. A resident, secured with just a rope around his waist, climbed out to support her until fire fighters broke into the flat to rescue her.
