Tinubu Warns Jega: Conduct Free, Fair Elections, Or Loose Your Job

Former Lagos State governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Thursday berated the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Atahiru Jega, on his recent comment that Nigerians should not expect perfect election in 2015.

He urged the INEC boss to resign if he cannot guarantee a perfect election.

Speaking with newsmen after the All Progressive Congress (APC) membership registration sensitisation meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Lagos, Tinubu, said with such comment, “Jega is already admitting failure and laying foundation for failure.

“If he can’t do the job, let him quit. What do we pay him for? A perfect election makes a perfect society. We must strive to give the people what they want.“It has to be a perfect election in 2015, it has to be 99.9 per cent perfect. If he wants to lecture again about perfect and imperfection of electoral process, let him go back to the university”, Tinubu said.

UK Archbishops Criticise Nigerian And Ugandan Anti-Gay Laws

The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have written to the presidents of Nigeria and Uganda, after being asked about laws penalising gay people.

The letter said homosexual people were loved and valued by God and should not be victimised or diminished. Addressed to all primates (heads of national Churches) in the worldwide Anglican Communion, Archbishops Justin Welby of Canterbury and John Sentamu of York said the letter was a result of “questions asked about the Church of England’s attitude to new legislation in several countries that penalises people with same-sex attraction”.

The letter comes as Archbishop Welby starts a five-day tour of four African countries.

Oslo-based Norwegian designers,Theo Tveterås and Lars Vedeler have created a Durr watch that doesn't tell the time but gives the wearer timely notifications by vibrating every five minutes. The design features a colourful fabric circle with a simple brown leather strap and a small button to turn vibration on and off.

The designers said they created the watch as an experiment to draw attention to the difference between time as it passes and how we perceive it passing.

The first batch of 50 £75 watches is said to have sold out in just over six weeks.

The Norwegian duo, who work together under the name Skrekkøgle, said that after wearing the watch for six months, it added a certain ‘rhythm’ to each day. But others have criticised it for being nothing more than an expensive ‘egg timer on a strap’.

Mr Tveterås said the feedback from other people was- it acts like a countdown to their death ‘which wasn’t the intention at all’.

The original units were constructed on a small scale, pieced together and dyed by hand, but the designers are now planning a much larger production run.

Heart stopping footage of Thailand tourist hurling selves overboard as boat sinks under great waves

A dramatic footage has emerged showing a ship - named ‘Aladdin’ – sinking under great waves as people on board can be heard screaming and shouting for help when they realised that they were in grave danger.

Some of the passengers who jumped off the boat were sucked under the waves as they tried to escape. Others were able to dive to safety. Miraculously none of the 13 people on board died after people on another boat swam over to save them.

Swedish diver Dennis Karlsson, 46, who was on board the Peter Pan, took the footage of the boat sinking and the dramatic rescue.(see pictures after the jump). ‘It was just a coincidence that our boat was there and could come to the rescue,’ he told Sweden's Aftonbladet newspaper.

It is believed that Aladdin, which sank between Bon Island and Tachai Island in Thailand's south, was on a four-day live-aboard adventure trip at the time it sank. The incident comes just three months after six tourists died when an overcrowded ferry carrying 200 people capsized and sank off the Thai coast.

Baby factory uncovered in Ondo, 21 suspects arrested

A Baby factory operated by one Mr and Mrs Abiodun Ogundeji has been uncovered in Ilu-Titun in Okitipupa council area of Ondo State by the state command of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS.

At least 24 suspects were arrested in connection with the illegal establishment. Among those nabbed by the anti-trafficking detectives of the command include five pregnant women, five nursing mothers, five babies, two of which are less than a month old and eight men whose duty it was to impregnate the women.

The arrest of the proprietor of the baby factory, Mrs Happiness Ogundeji, was after several months of intelligence gathering and discreet surveillance by officials of the command. According to reports, the proprietor, Mrs Ogundeji had to relocate to Ondo State after she was arrested in Imo State for a similar offence.

Upon her arrest,she was said to have pretended that the baby factory was a natural healing home.

Queen Bey and hubby, Jay Z yet face another criticism over what many have termed a scintillating performance in the just concluded grammy awards. Here's what many think!!

India Arie Writes About Racism & Politics in the 2014 Grammy Awards,asks why Nelson Mandela wasnt recognised

American recording artiste India Arie wasn’t pleased with how the 2014 Grammy Awards went down on Sunday night at the Staples Center, Los Angeles, California. She took to her Tumblr page to speak out on how black artistes are not being honoured and recognized with the gold statues.

India also made mention of how the show is all about popularity and not the music and ended by asking why Nelson Mandela wasn’t recognized.

Ghanaian ex-wife wipes out her ex-husband’s new family

A 33-year-old Ghanaian woman, on Monday 27th of January, 2014 completely wiped out her ex-husband’s new family. Efua Badu and her ex got separated when the two had(undisclosed) marital problems, it was learnt. Their families tried to settle the matter, but her ex-husband insisted it was over. He later got married to a 25-year old lady who bore him a child - now two and a half year-old.

Efua couldn't stand losing her man, the father of her two kids and as such, in the early hours of Monday, around 1.30am, she set the uncompleted building her ex was living ablaze, killing him, his new wife and their baby while they were all asleep. She later fled from the scene, but when fire fighters got there, they couldn't trace where the fire began and said someone might have set the family ablaze.

After investigation, Efua was traced to her home by the police, where they saw some burns in her right arm and face. She denied ever knowing anything about the fire, but later confessed she was behind it when she was been interrogated. She admitted she did it out of jealous and pleaded to be forgiven.

The charred bodies of the three have been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for examination. Sadly, the 25-year old new wife and her daughter only got to the man’s house for the first time on the 26th of January, 2014, when he, the deceased went to bring them to start living with him. They died a few hours later.

Kanye settles out of court, pays his Beverly Hills victim over $250K

Law enforcement sources tell us ... the D.A. has not decided whether to charge Kanye with battery. The reality is ... there's almost no chance of that happening.  First, the D.A. now has an uncooperative victim. Second, the victim's alleged racial epithets will not sit well with the jury. And there are probably lots of Kanye fans in the jury pool. Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan seeks death penalty for cyber crime

Nigerian head of state, President Goodluck Jonathan has proposed a bill seeking the death penalty for any person(s)found guilty of hacking into Criminal National Information Infrastructure or any computer network that would lead to loss of lives

The bill which is called the Cyber Crime bill 2013 is currently before the House of Reps and seeks to address all forms of criminality within the cyberspace proposes a life sentence for anyone who uses any computer network to carry out acts of terrorism. In a case where there is no loss of life but the offender causes grave bodily harm, the bill recommends a prison term of not less than 15months while a 10 year jail term or a fine of N20million or both is been proposed for anyone who engages in child pornography..

The bill defines Critical National Information Infrastructure as 'certain computer systems, networks information infrastructure vital to the national security of Nigeria or the economy & social well-being of its citizen'.

Disney Channel Introduces Its First Ever Same-Sex Couple On The Kids' Channel!

Last weekend, Kids' oriented TV network, Disney Channel, introduced its first-ever openly gay couple on the family series-Good Luck Charlie, in an episode that made the lifestyle look perfectly normal.

In the groundbreaking episode, parents Amy and Bob Duncan, played by Leigh-Allyn Baker and Eric Allan Kramer, set up a playdate for their preschooler Charlie (Mia Talerico) and one of her new friends, who, it turns out, has two mothers.

Already, the introduction has met strong opposition from conservative watch groups, who are accusing Disney that it plans to corrupt children with LGBT content.But Disney maintains the episode was developed to be “relevant' to kids and families around the world. That the characters were meant to reflect today’s world, as many viewers are young children with same-sex parents.
