A man has been arrested after a car crashed into a large crowd
of people on the popular Venice Beach boardwalk in California leaving one person
killed and 11 injured.
CCTV footage showed a man parking his black vehicle along the
seaside boardwalk and watching the crowd for several minutes (probably deciding
how to hit them) before getting back into the car and speeding into the crowd.
Louisa Hodge, 35, who witnessed the crash, said: "There
was people kind of stumbling around, blood dripping down their legs looking
confused not knowing what had happened, people screaming.
"It was blocks and blocks of people just strewn across
the sidewalk."
Firefighters found 12 people injured among the crowd. Ten
were taken to hospital, where one later died, fire officials said.
Another victim is in a critical condition and two others are
in a serious condition.
The driver fled the scene, but an hour later a man walked
into a police station in Santa Monica and said he was involved in the crash, Lt
Neiman said.
Police then found a car nearby that is thought to be the one
involved in the crash.
