Actress, Emelia Brobbey who has been in the news for an
alleged shoplifting incident in London has vehemently denied that allegation on
her arrival in Ghana on Thursday July 25, 2013.
She was met by colleague actors and actresses mainly from
Kumasi who came in their numbers to support her, chanting songs of victory and
making defensive comments.
She said in a press briefing that she had been wrongfully
represented in the press - And that the incident happened when a bracelet
accidentally fell into her baby's pram without her knowledge until the alarm
beeped when she was about leaving the shop, to signify that she had on her
something that she had not been paid for.
She said she explained to the security and even paid for it
when the shop attendant asked if she wanted to keep the bracelet. She hinted
that she was pursued a couple of days later by the London police after she had
given her address because she was perceived to be in the country illegally. The
actress recalled that the police only checked her passport and visa. The
popular actress stressed, contrary to earlier speculations that, she was
arrested.
Emelia Brobbey alleged that some persons appear dead set on tarnishing her image by planting false stories in the media, insisting she had never stolen before in her entire life.
On the issue of her friends being detained because of the
shoplifting issue - Emelia stated that her lawyers were currently handling the
matter to rescue them from detention.
